Harold Braul – Artist

Harold Braul is a masterful Canadian artist whose work captures the ephemeral beauty of everyday urban life with extraordinary eloquence. His artistic vision transforms ordinary moments into luminous celebrations of color, movement, and light.

Born in 1960 in southern Ontario, Braul's artistic journey began at the tender age of six under the guidance of a private instructor, where he developed his profound appreciation for color, line, and light. Though his formal education includes studying Industrial Design at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, his work maintains a captivating childlike wonder that distinguishes his unique artistic voice.

Braul's distinctive compositions emerge not from direct observation but from the rich tapestry of his imagination filtered through memory. Drawing inspiration from the French Impressionists, he elevates mundane urban scenes—a waiting commuter, an overcoat billowing on a rain-swept street—into moments of transcendent beauty. His snapshots of metropolitan life are rendered with bold chromatic choices tempered by a soft, seductive luminescence that enchants the viewer's eye.

His technique features loose, vibrating brushstrokes that brilliantly convey motion and transience: cyclists navigating corners, birds poised for flight, lively bistros pulsating with color and animated figures. Each composition suggests an unfolding narrative, inviting viewers to pause and discover the extraordinary within the ordinary.

Harold Braul's original artwork is on permanent display in the prestigious Chicago Design Center Merchandise Mart at Chicago's premier art destination, Noures Gallery on the 6th floor. His work can also be viewed at Wisconsin's distinguished fine art establishment, Gallery Lake Geneva.
