Victor "Nemo"
Colesnicenco
Artist Biography
Victor Colesnicenco emerged from the cultural tapestry of Chisinau, Moldova's vibrant capital—a nation steeped in profound artistic heritage. Known affectionately as "Nemo" among intimates, he recalls being enchanted by the intricate carvings and masterful craftsmanship that adorned his Eastern European surroundings from his earliest days.
His particular reverence for paintings manifested as an unwavering determination to pursue the painter's path. Nemo embarked upon an intensive exploration of celebrated masters' techniques and stylistic approaches, finding himself especially captivated by the distinct visions of Ivan Shishkin and Salvador Dalí. Though he initially sought formal training at the local art academy, the restrictive pedagogical methods of the Russian-influenced institution proved incompatible with his creative spirit. Recognizing that conventional education would constrain rather than nurture his artistic development, he chose instead to forge his own educational journey.
His innate talent blossomed remarkably under self-direction, soon leading him to orchestrate expansive outdoor exhibitions showcasing both his evolving portfolio and works by fellow emerging artists. This creative trajectory was temporarily redirected when Nemo answered the call to military service, dedicating two years to the Soviet Army. Upon completing his obligation, he rediscovered his artistic calling with renewed passion and conviction.
Partnering with a trusted colleague, Nemo established an enterprise dedicated to the meticulous restoration of artistic treasures and the creation of magnificent church murals. The dissolution of Soviet influence and subsequent renaissance of religious expression throughout the region provided abundant opportunities for their specialized atelier to flourish.
Among the most distinguished permanent collections featuring Nemo's work in the American Midwest are two exceptional installations. Discerning patrons can experience his masterpieces at Chicago's prestigious Noure's Gallery, elegantly situated on the sixth floor of the architectural landmark Design Center at the Merchandise Mart. This celebrated space has become a destination for collectors seeking Nemo's distinctive artistic vision amidst a carefully curated selection of fine art.
The second jewel in Nemo's Midwestern crown resides in the picturesque setting of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, at Gallery Lake Geneva—widely recognized as the region's preeminent fine art destination. Nestled among the natural splendor of this beloved lakeside retreat, the gallery provides the perfect contemplative environment for appreciating the depth and nuance of Nemo's exceptional works.
